What does the workplace look like in the offices of Molecular Health?

Our office building in Heidelberg is a spacious new building near the main train station and the city center. The team offices extend over two floors. The teams are housed in offices for 2-4 colleagues. Common rooms, such as a coffee kitchen, lounge, and break room with a terrace, are also available for all employees.

What technical and office equipment do employees have and use?

Our hardware, technologies, and tools are geared toward the respective software products and applications. We choose the technology and tools that best suit the task and our users. With the support of the IT operations team for technical issues (DevOps), we operate a large server landscape with RedHat and Windows for development, testing and production, including “playgrounds.” The workplace is modernly furnished with height-adjustable desks and as many screens as needed.

Which tech stack does software development work with?

Currently, our main languages are JavaScript and Python, and we use well-known frameworks such as React, D3, SAP UI5, Node.js, Ext-JS – of course linked to SQL against the PostGres, SAP HANA, and Oracle databases. Our open tool kit currently consists of: GitHub, DB Visualizer, SAP HANA Studio, Jenkins, Qunit, OPA5, Vagrant, Yarn, and much more.

How do the development teams operate?

We work in small, agile, and international teams with 2–6 developers on our projects, divided into several focus areas. English is our standard language, and we live agile development (EPIC, User Stories, Dailys, etc.) embedded in the context of product roadmaps. That means no annoying project hopping, plus a chance to develop “your baby” and make a real mark. Developers work daily with biomedical experts from Product Management and IT experts from the IT-Ops team and can, thus, implement successful software solutions that customers value.
